~Rock cycle- the series of process in which a rock forms changes from one type to another is destroyed and formed again by geologic process
~Sedimentary rock-grains of sand an other sediment are eroded from hills wash down a river to the ocean. over time the sediment forms thick layer on the ocean floor eventually the grains of sediment are compaded and cemented together to form sedimentary rock.
~Metamorphic rock- when large pieces of the earths crust collide some of the rock is forced downward. at great depths intense heat and squeeze the sedimentary rock to change into metamorphic rock.
~Igneous rock- the sand grains from step 1 have changed a lot but they will change more. magma tends to rise to higher levels of the earths crust . once there the magma cools and solidifies to become igneous rock
~composition- the chemical make-up of a rock; describes either the minerals or other minerals in the rock.
~intrusive igneous rock- rock formed by the cooling and solidification of magma beneath the earths surface
~extrusive igneous rock- rock that forms as a result of volcanic activity at or rear the earths surface
~strata- layers or rock
~stratification- the process of which sedimentary rocks are arranged in layers
~fiolated- the texture of metamorphic rock in which the minerals grains are arrange in planes of bands
~nonfioalted- the texture of metamorphic rock in which the are not arranged in planes and bands
